Limestone County Household Hazardous Waste Collection

WHEN:        Saturday, August 29th from 8:00 am to Noon


WHERE:     Athens Middle School parking lot, 100 U.S. Hwy 31, Athens, Alabama

                                      (between the school and the stadium)


Every household creates household hazardous waste. This is an opportunity to clear out those items that cannot be disposed up any other way except at a special collection. These items are NOT permitted in regular trash containers. THIS IS YOUR CHANCE!






PAINT AND RELATED PRODUCTS: such as oil or water-based paints, mineral spirits, turpentine and thinners, furniture strippers, paint removers, stains, aerosols.

AUTOMOTIVE PRODUCTS: such as transmission fluid, brake fluid, anti-freeze (motor oil should be taken to the Athens-Limestone Recycling Center on Lucas Ferry Rd.)

LAWN AND GARDEN POISONS: such as weed killers, liquids, powders, sprays, soaps, herbicides, pesticides, and fungicides, rodent poisons, roach and flea powder

HOUSEHOLD CLEANERS: such as oven cleaners, toilet cleaners, disinfectants, drain cleaners, rug and upholstery cleaners, floor and furniture polishes, ammonia or bleach-based products

HOUSEHOLD CHEMICALS:  such as pool chemicals, photographic chemicals, solvents, mercury thermometers and thermostats, fluorescent tubes (tubes only)

* Medications

PLEASE TRY to bring materials in their original containers. If the containers are damaged, please put them in a box that has been lined with two garbage bags or in a container with a lid. If your household wastes are leaking, put the box or container in cat litter, sawdust or other similar absorbent materials for transport.
